Garbage Bag Aprons

and Other Coverups

Here is a quick way to make garbage bag aprons which provide protection for cooking, crafts, and other messy tasks. (See Diagram.)

Garbage Bag Aprons Diagram

  1. Take a garbage bag. Fold in half lengthwise.

  2. Put the closed end to the top.

  3. Just Three Cuts are needed.

  4. Cut an arc completely off for the upper part of the apron.

  5. Cut 1" inside the arc but stop 1" before the closed end.

  6. Cut 1" inside from the sides of the bag beginning at the bottom. Stop 1" before the arc.

  7. Take the two arc pieces and tie them together for the part that goes over the neck.

  8. The other two strips along the sides tie around the waist.

A Simpler Garbage Bag Apron

  1. Fold trash bag in half lengthwise.

  2. Cut a small arc for the head out of the center along the fold.

  3. Slash holes in the sides for the arms.

  4. Pull over the head and put the arms through the side holes.

Warning: All of these bags are for older children only. Younger children might put them over their faces and suffocate. These are NOT toys. They are only to be used under adult supervision where the adult can make sure the bags are kept away from children's faces.

Other Coverups

Old button down shirts. Put on backwards and roll up sleeves if necessary.

If you don't have any old shirts or know someone who does, check out thrift stores and garage sales for cheap ones you can use.

No matter which garbage bag apron or coverup you choose, you will find that they will protect your clothing from any messy activities.

Not only are they quick and easy to do, they are made with things that most people have around the house anyway. No need to run out to the store to get supplies.

They are also disposable aprons so that they can be thrown away when you are done with the mess.
