About Me
Hi! My name is Karen Jones. This About Me page will help you understand
where I am coming from. I created the Simply Kids Play website because
I am so passionate about kids playing.
I loved to play throughout all the stages of my life and still enjoy
playing. Because I am a Big Kid at heart, I guess it is all right for
me to play even today.
Playing is still an essential part of my life, and I like to keep my
child-like perspective. As a Big Kid, I like to play even when my
Grandkids are not around so I guess that makes me Young at Heart. I
love good old fashioned toys and activities. The simple pleasures of
play are a great stress reliever for me.
I love dolls and paper dolls. I love to scrapbook, make cards, and do
other crafts with my grandkids or alone. I also have my own toy
collections -- dolls, slinkies, stuffed animals, wooden toys, etc.
I am married to the same wonderful husband for over forty years now. I
am the Mother of three Children and Grandmother of six delightful
Grandchildren. I am a retired Home Economist and School Teacher, and I
have a Home Economics and an Education degree. I also enjoy and have
taught about computers and how to use them. I have the best of both
worlds now combining play and computers.
When my kids were little, I made many of their toys. Purchased toys
were breaking so rapidly that I decided to make my own toys out of wood
that wouldn't break. I made cars and trucks, trains and boats, and
dolls. I even made a stroller and a play kitchen set (sink, stove, and
refrigerator) using only a hand jigsaw and a hand drill on my kitchen
floor. My grandchildren now enjoy playing with these toys as they have
survived the test of time.
I instantly warm up to any children who are around me. Even though I
have white hair, I still like to get down on the floor to the
children's eye levels and play directly with them. Although I have had
fibromyalgia since 1980, I am able to get down on the floor and play
with my grandkids. My fibromyalgia blog tells more about my life with fibromyalgia.
I now have the greatest part-time job at the Children's Area of our
local Museum. I get to play and create activities for the kids to do.
